This part!

“Discipline isn’t a feeling you wait for. It’s a decision you already made, being honored by a version of you who doesn’t currently agree with it.“

If I relied on just motivation I wouldn’t have the life I have. This is so true. Building a flexible discipline is key

I really appreciate that. "Flexible discipline" is a great way to put it. Discipline isn't about being perfect every day, it's about keeping the promise you made to yourself, even when today's version of you would rather do something else. That's what creates lasting change.

On the whole I am a self-disciplined person and it’s true that this has nothing to do with willpower. If you wait until you feel like it, then it will probably never happen. To me it’s a promise I make to myself. Who wants to have to take a look at oneself and see a bag of broken promises that have a way of sticking to you! It doesn’t have to be a life changing promise every time - it just has to be a manageable one that gets you through the day and improves your self confidence.

I love the way you framed it as a promise to yourself. I think that's the heart of discipline. Every promise you keep quietly reinforces the belief that you can trust yourself. And you're right, it doesn't have to be a huge promise. Small ones, kept consistently, often change us more than grand intentions ever do.

We have to push it until the habit becomes automatic

Exactly. The goal isn't to rely on willpower forever but it's to repeat the action until it becomes part of who you are. Once discipline becomes a habit, it asks far less of you than motivation ever did.
