I believe if you look at your life and its purpose from a point of curiosity and like a long journey where you learn about your mind and allow yourself to make mistakes and sort of find your way, there won't be emptiness. But we are taught to chase, to win a race, doing something which has no connection to our mind and soul. That is bound to lead to emptiness.

Those are often the very things that help us discover a life that actually fits us. The emptiness comes when we're so focused on winning a race we never stopped to ask whether it was ours to run.
